US solar third-quarter surges driven by rooftops

Milwaukee Brewing Company to use solar energy

Milwaukee Brewing Company has announced it will install a solar hot water system at its Walker's Point brewery. The 28-panel system will pre-heat water before it is used for brewing. The brewery expects to install the system in early 2013. It will save the company about 27 percent in energy costs during the brewing process. More

Grants to solar energy project allocated for Massachusetts center

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems is in line to receive up to $11.7 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Energy for a project that seeks to develop technologies that will enable homeowners to select the right solar system for their houses. Based in Cambridge, Mass., the Fraunhofer Center is to receive the money over a five-year period, subject to congressional appropriations, the department said. More

Tiny structure gives big boost to solar power

Princeton University researchers have found a simple and economical way to nearly triple the efficiency of organic solar cells, the cheap and flexible plastic devices that many scientists believe could be the future of solar power. Researchers were able to increase the efficiency of the solar cells 175 percent by using a nanostructured "sandwich" of metal and plastic that collects and traps light. More

Solar power advances in Haiti
