A Snapshot of Sports Licensed Product Sales

According to the May 18 edition of The Licensing Letter, the second largest category for licensed merchandise sales is ‘sports.’ The ‘trademark/brand’ category is number one. In 2008, sales of licensed sports products outperformed the licensed merchandise category as a whole even though sports merchandise sales fell 13 percent to $11.92 billion in the U.S. and Canada. The call examined the impact of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) on the sporting goods industry. The topics examined included (1) Recent & Future Changes at the CPSC, (2) Tracking Label Requirements, (3) CPSC Guidance & "Practicable" Solutions for Tracking Label Requirements, (4) Public Consumer Database - Section 212, and (5) Practical Tips for Consumer Product Litigation. Congressional Health Care Reform Needs PHIT

Now that Congressman Ron Kind, D-Wis., has introduced the Personal Health Investment Today Act of 2009 (PHIT) in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congress needs to hear loudly that PHIT is important to lowering health care costs. It is imperative that the general public send letters, faxes, and emails to their representatives in Washington, D.C., (i.e. local member of the House and your two U.S. Senators) expressing their support for the PHIT Act.
