Looking for the same old IT conference? Look elsewhere...
SIM
Spoiler alert: The same old thing doesn't work anymore; and, social media cannot replace the power of face-to-face networking, at least not yet.

There are still a few of us who believe (or hope) that the methods we used in the past to be successful are the same methods we should continue to employ to regain or retain that success. You've heard it all before, "our business model works," or "our project methodology works."

What should today's leaders do to avoid becoming a footnote in the business journals? We've assembled some of the best minds of today to address this topic and many others at SIMposium 2014. Our speakers are excited about this year's agenda. So excited, that many of them have asked to stay and network throughout the conference.

The theme for this year's conference is Innovation (in business, management, technology and life). Our speakers, panelists and workshop facilitators will help us navigate today's vibrant business environment. Learn more and register at www.SIMposium2014.com

of digital innovation

TechRepublic
Big Four accounting firm and consultancy EY (known formerly as Ernst & Young) recently published the survey Born to be digital: How leading CIOs are preparing for a digital transformation. 5 CIO lessons that I learned from Dr. J
The Huffington Post
CMO Vala Afshar writes: "After a brutal winter, spring may finally be here, bringing with it the NCAA and NBA playoffs, when great minds turn to... basketball. Last year, I was fortunate to speak with NBA-legend JoJo White, who advised CIOs and business leaders to become T.E.A.M. players. This year, I have had the privilege of speaking with Dr. J. Not the four-time NBA MVP Julius Erving, but Dr. Alissa Johnson, whose artistry and style with information technology rivals Erving's artistry with the basketball."

How CIOs help protect company trade secrets
The Wall Street Journal
The most valuable asset of any company is its know-know or trade secrets. A company can have millions of dollars of other assets such as equipment, real estate and inventory. But what distinguishes a company and makes it successful is its "secret sauce." Many companies have determined that their valuable confidential business information, from customers' lists to manufacturing know-how to sales tactics are worth more than their plant and equipment.

Two-thirds of U.K. IT budgets will be allocated to innovative new products and services by 2017. Who left the window open? XP users cast out into the cold
By Ross Lancaster
It's a near-certainty that no matter where you're reading this from, Windows XP was at one time or another your main operating system at home, work or both. Released to retail in October 2001, the OS remained the most popular in operation until August 2012, when fellow Microsoft product Windows 7 overtook it. Nearly 28 percent of people still log on using Windows XP as of March. But after support for Windows XP ended April 8, any business or person staying with the operating system is at risk for possible cybersecurity problems.
