Data breaches cost New York businesses $1.4 billion
The Wall Street Journal
Public and private institutions in the state of New York suffered more than 900 data breaches costing more than $1.37 billion in 2013, according to a report released by the state attorney general recently, reports the New York Times. Led by high profile cybersecurity incidents at Target Corp. and LivingSocial Inc., the breaches exposed the personal and financial records of 7.3 million New Yorkers last year. Since 2006, nearly 5,000 breaches exposed 22.8 million personal records.
