About halfway through conducting a survey of corporate CIOs and CMOs about the state of omnichannel development and collaborators, CIO magazine and the CMO club realized a fundamental problem with the research. They were asking both sets of executives their opinions and forecasts about basic items like "digital product," "platform" and "omnichannel" and realized each group actually had different definitions of the same terms.

H-P's Ramon Baez on how to be a successful CIO

If anyone knows about the changing job of the chief information officer, it's Ramon Baez, CIO at Hewlett-Packard Co. He joined H-P in August 2012 to help CEO Meg Whitman remake a company suffering from declining PC sales and losses triggered by the controversial purchase of software maker Autonomy. When Baez joined H-P, he had his work cut out for him, he in a recent webcast interview. The previous regime had largely viewed information technology as a cost to be managed. But Baez and Whitman saw information technology differently, as a tool to help transform H-P into an efficient, innovative corporation.
