Voith debuts new Kinetic hybrid press felt
NONWOVENS INDUSTRY
The newly developed Kinetic hybrid press felt from Voith differs from conventional press felts through its combination of a woven base structure and a nonwoven yarn structure. Its modular design gives paper manufacturers the possibility of fulfilling their requirements for dewatering performance and sheet quality at the same time. The nonwoven yarn structure of Kinetic can be positioned both in machine as well as in cross direction and is designed for fineness and accuracy. Due to this structure, Kinetic has a large number of contact points, which provides for up to 20 percent more efficient dewatering of the paper web.

Car seat sensors aim to curb drowsy driving accidents

Many automobile accidents around the world are caused by tired drivers falling asleep at the wheel. Now, a U.K. company is aiming to help alleviate this deadly problem. New car seats are being developed with electronic sensors knitted into the fabric that alert drivers if they begin to fall asleep behind the wheel. Doing this requires a unique design for the sensors. Knitted conductive textiles are viewed as the best type of textile to use for the sensors, as the fabric is designed in a way that makes it easy to incorporate electronics without being a bother or distraction to the driver.

Colombian companies make headway in technical textiles

Some Colombian companies have made headway in the technical textiles industry in recent times. While companies like Plastextil and Enka have become 100 percent technical textiles oriented, other firms like Pat Primo and Lafayette, which are known for the manufacturing of textiles and garments, are now entering the technical textiles market, according to an El Espectador report. Pat Primo has ventured into production of flame retardant and UV-protective clothing, whereas Lafayette is working on technology for sports clothing.
