White House weighs broad gun-control agenda in wake of Newtown, Conn., shootings
The Washington Post    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The White House is weighing a far broader and more comprehensive approach to curbing the nation's gun violence than simply reinstating an expired ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition, according to multiple people involved in the administration's discussions. A working group led by Vice President Joe Biden is seriously considering measures backed by key law enforcement leaders that would require universal background checks for firearm buyers, track the movement and sale of weapons through a national database, strengthen mental health checks and stiffen penalties for carrying guns near schools or giving them to minors, the sources said. Nojay against 'feel-good' gun laws that help nobody
Human Events    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A freshman upstate New York state assemblyman told Human Events instead of making law-abiding gun owners criminals, the state should focus on actual criminals. "The murderer who killed two volunteer firemen just 20 minutes from my home had previously smashed his own grandmother's skull in with a hammer, yet here he was living free, without parole supervision," said. Republican William R. Nojay, who is an attorney and radio show host. More

San Marcos    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
While the federal government and other states ponder more rigorous gun control laws following the shootings at a Connecticut elementary school, some legislators in Texas have taken the opposite approach. They have emphasized the need to make firearms more available and their discussions have included increasing access for teachers and other school personnel. More

Texas Representative proposes concealed handgun license changes
KXII-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Texas legislature is back in session soon and one hot topic will be gun laws. A state representative is proposing two bills that will impact Texas citizens who already have or are looking to get their concealed handgun licenses. Right now, to get a Texas concealed handgun license you must go through a ten hour class, which teaches things like gun safety and Texas law. To renew that license, you must go through a four hour class. State Rep. Dan Flynn wants to change those requirements completely. More

Buying a gun safe
American Rifleman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Fred, as we'll call him, had recently inherited his father's gun collection and lacking a good place to store the 30 or so shotguns, rifles and muzzleloaders that now belonged to him, he just tucked them here and there, in closets and under beds, like his father had. It was quite a shock for the man when he and his family returned from a short stint out of town to find their home had been pilfered and all of the guns were gone. More

Los Angeles Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Women pushing strollers stopped to peer at handguns in glass cases. Men squinted through scopes. The "clack-clack" of stun guns crackled overhead. A man meandered through the crowd, a black rifle slung over his back with a cardboard sign: "For sale: $1,700." Less than a month after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at a Connecticut elementary school, business was brisk at one of the nation's largest gun shows, held at the Ontario, Calif., Convention Center, where vendors and patrons alike expressed fear of possible new federal restrictions on guns.
