John Cornyn and Steve Stockman Senate race is all about gun rights
The Washington Times
While 2013 was a year of Second Amendment advocates on defense, 2014 is lining up to be a year of gaining ground on gun rights. President Barack Obama continues to issue his dictates. Michael R. Bloomberg is still throwing around millions of dollars. And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is just keeping a finger in the dike on Capitol Hill until the midterms. But the American people are ready to get back to strengthening their rights to keep and bear arms.

Texas school district in hot water after Second Amendment misinterpreted in high school textbook
CultureMap Austin
A parent in Denton has taken to the Internet to voice his discontent over an Advanced Placement U.S. history textbook that summarizes the Second Amendment as when "the people have the right to keep and bear arms in a state militia." This is, of course, a loose, perhaps even incorrect, interpretation of the Second Amendment, which reads, in full: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Obama gun control scheming sparked record firearm sales
The New American
Across America, guns are still flying off the shelves, with sales numbers continually smashing previous records set over the last decade as Americans load up on firearms of all varieties in never-before-seen quantities. From Colorado and Connecticut to Ohio, Virginia and Alabama — and everywhere in between — gun sales are exploding. Indeed, government data show 2013 was the best year for domestic sales in U.S. history after beating the previous high set the year before. Restrictions on gun rights, meanwhile, are overwhelmingly getting less draconian at the state level.

Dramatized video of Trayvon Martin shooting calls out Texas gun laws
CultureMap Dallas
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has re-created the night Trayvon Martin was killed in a dramatic PSA that asks Americans to "stand up to 'Stand Your Ground Laws.'" Twenty-six states including Texas currently have some form of law allowing for deadly force if one feels threatened. The video, which was posted August 19, takes several creative liberties with the accepted story line in which neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in a Florida apartment complex. Zimmerman was acquitted for Martin's death in July.
