Disarming the myths promoted by the gun control lobby
Forbes    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
As much as gun control advocates might wish otherwise, their attacks are running out of ammo. With private firearm ownership at an all-time high and violent crime rates plunging, none of the scary scenarios they advanced have materialized. Abuse of responsibility by armed citizens is rare, while successful defensive interventions against assaults on their lives and property are relatively commonplace. More

Firearms industry responds to Mexican president's calls for US gun control
NSSF    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Mexican President Felipe Calderon unveiled a large sign with the English message "No more weapons!" on a Mexican bridge facing El Paso, Texas. Calderon used the unveiling of this sign to call for additional gun control measures in the United States, including the reinstitution of a ban on modern sporting rifles. Ironically Mexico, which justifiably guards its sovereignty, seems to have no problem dictating to the United States what our domestic firearms laws should be. While we respect the work of Calderon to willingly take on his country's powerful drug cartels, we continue to be disappointed that he, in the name of security, would urge our Congress to reinstitute a failed ban on so-called "assault weapons." Kids, concealed carry, and the message of self defense
Handguns    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
If you have children, and carry a gun — even infrequently — you are sending them a message. Either directly or indirectly, you're letting them know that you believe in taking personal responsibility for your own safety, and that you feel that fighting back is a viable option. This, believe it or not, is in direct contrast with what almost everybody else in the media and elsewhere is telling them. Many chiefs of police come out and tell potential victims not to resist muggers, just give them what they want, never mind the fact that study after study has shown that you are less likely to be injured if you resist. Why would they do this? Police chiefs are both politicians and cops; politicians always want more control, and many police officers have issues with civilians doing "their job." More

California gun owners press the case for hidden weapons
Morris Daily Herald    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Chuck Michel's strategy for crime-fighting rests on the element of surprise: keep the bad guys guessing who's armed and who's not. "If 5 percent of the ducks could shoot back, you're not going to go duck hunting," said the Long Beach lawyer representing many Californians denied concealed weapons permits and, in his view, their constitutional right to self-defense. For decades, that argument has fallen flat in the courtroom. Judges have routinely held that denying permits to carry loaded firearms in public does not infringe on gun owners' right to keep and bear arms. More

The Daily Caller    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Ever since taking office, President Barack Obama has tried desperately to convince gun owners and sportsmen that he supports the Second Amendment. But actions speak louder than words, and Obama's latest budget proposal contains numerous sneak attacks aimed at the heart of our firearm freedoms. More

Update: Man acquitted in shooting is 'happy to be free,' but is now homeless
The Des Moines Register    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The first thing Jay Rodney Lewis did after being acquitted was "go to Fuddruckers and get me a burger. Because that jail food was horrible." While he ate, the 49-year-old Lewis nervously watched out the window for police. "I was so scared that somebody was going to come in and say, 'OK, that's it. You're coming with us,' " he said. More

Pending Michigan bill would criminalize alteration of fake guns
Fox News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Possessing imitation firearms altered to look like authentic guns could result in real consequences if pending legislation in Michigan is passed. The bill, S.B. 779, which could be voted upon in the Senate soon, would amend Michigan the law to penalize the use of an imitation firearm in a crime if its required colored markings are removed, disguised or concealed. If passed, the bill would also ban real firearms from being doctored to look like a toy. More Obama is 'greatest gun salesman' in US
USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Firearms sales and concealed handgun permit applications have hit all-time highs since President Barak Obama's election, reports a website that backs gun rights. "President Obama's perceived hostility towards gun owners has been one of the key factors behind the multi-year financial boom the firearms industry continues to enjoy," notes More
