Best states for gun owners in 2013
Guns & Ammo
These days, it's becoming more difficult for gun owners across the country to find safe haven, as the powers that be on both federal and state levels begin introducing a quagmire of anti-gun legislation hindering the rights of law-abiding citizens. States like Illinois are notorious for their anti-gun agendas, while states like Texas are viewed as a sort of shooters' paradise.

Feinstein's assault weapons ban dropped from Senate gun bill: Is it dead?
Guns.com
A fatal blow may have been delivered to Sen. Dianne Feinstein's, D-Calif., federal ban on assault weapons after Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said that it will not be included as part of a comprehensive gun control package that the Senate will consider in April. Faced with the tough news, Feinstein all but admitted defeat, "I very much regret it" she told reporters, adding, "I tried my best, but my best, I guess, wasn't good enough."

The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., will bring gun control legislation to the floor that includes a controversial expansion of background checks for private firearm sales. Reid said he would begin the process of bringing legislation to the floor for consideration in April. "Later tonight, I will start the process of bringing a bill to reduce gun violence to the Senate floor. This bill will include the provisions on background checks, school safety and gun trafficking reported by the Judiciary Committee," Reid said.

Meet the NRA's biggest recruiter
Real Clear Politics
If you want to know why Sen. Dianne Feinstein's, D-Calif., assault weapons ban couldn't muster 40 votes — that's according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who says he will cut the ban from the Democrats' gun bill — attend a National Rifle Association event in Feinstein's backyard. Though critics like to paint the organization as an out-of-touch haven for angry old white guys, The NRA "Fun Shoot" at the San Leandro Rifle & Pistol Range was anything but. Half of the group was female — and white, black and Asian. Four teens showed up with their parents.

UN takes up arms trade treaty opposed by NRA
The Hill
The United Nations will once again take up an arms trade treaty that has drawn the NRA's ire amid assurances that the Obama administration is "steadfast in its commitment" to getting it done. The White House helped pull the plug on treaty talks ahead of last year's election amid heavy lobbying by the U.S. gun lobby. Now the world body is taking another shot at reaching consensus on a treaty and this time the Obama administration says it's committed to getting it done.

Why Biden's preaching to the gun control choir
Roll Call
On the morning after he promised he wasn't giving up his fight to curb sales of military-style rifles, Vice President Joe Biden looked to make good on his vow by getting out on the road to stump for his cause of the year. But the place he chose to go spoke volumes about the fate of the assault weapons ban, if not the entire Obama agenda for curbing armed violence. It wasn't Charlotte, New Orleans, Little Rock, Anchorage or Billings — cities in red states represented by Democratic senators whose votes would be essential to advancing any gun control bill past an NRA-stoked filibuster, but would also significantly complicate their 2014 re-election prospects.

Family's home raided over Facebook photo of child's rifle
Fox News
New Jersey police and department of Children and Families officials raided the home of a firearms instructor and demanded to see his guns after he posted a Facebook photo of his 11-year-old son holding a rifle. "Someone called family services about the photo," said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. "It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids." Moore was not arrested or charged.

Texas lawmakers renew guns on campus debate
Associated Press via WFAA-TV
Texas lawmakers are renewing the debate on allowing concealed handguns into college classrooms. The House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety is hearing testimony on several bills allowing concealed handgun license holders to carry their guns into campus buildings where they are currently banned. About 50 people are signed up to testify. A similar measure erupted into one of the most contentious bills of the 2011 session before it failed. College administrators have generally not supported the effort in the past. They worry guns will spark more campus violence and suicide. Supporters call it a gun rights issue and a self-defense measure that could prevent mass shootings.

Firearm fear mongering
Outdoor Patriot Show
The political gun grabbing agenda has swept across the country. Assault weapons, high-capacity magazines, ammunition and even basic pump shotguns have been targeted by pro-tyranny Progressives. But the seriousness of these legislative assaults pale in comparison to the psychological terror unleashed on our nation's children. For months now, public school officials and teachers have resorted to firearm fear mongering and their targets have been our children. As a result, impressionable young students — some as young as 5-years-old — are being punished with official suspensions and expulsions that go on their permanent school records and their only crime was to play with or even "mention" a fake or imaginary gun.
