The disconnect between crime rates and support for gun rights
The Wall Street Journal
Over the past 25 years or so, there has been a divergence between American perceptions about crime and actual crime rates. Those who worried about crime had favored stricter gun control; now, they tend to desire keeping the laws as they are or loosening gun control.

After misfire, House Republicans reload open carry
The Texas Tribune
A bill allowing gun owners with concealed handgun licenses to carry weapons openly in public is back on the House schedule and likely to spark a long and heated debate — barring any more procedural hiccups. Lawmakers were expected to take up the legislation earlier, until House Democrats cried foul over a violation of House rules and shot down the bill before debate even started.

NRA, Texas businesses disagree over gun signs
Houston Chronicle
As lawmakers are set to approve open carry, Texas' largest business lobby also wants them to simplify the state's "gunbuster" signs, a proposal strongly opposed by the NRA. Under current law, business owners can post so-called 30.06 or "gunbuster" signs to prohibit their customers from carrying concealed handguns into their establishments. If Texas approves the open carry of handguns this session, as expected, businesses would have to post a second sign to bar open carry on their premises.

Guns
In a ruling by a U.S. appeals court handed down recently, a previous order to let shareholders vote on a proposal for tighter oversight on selling firearms with high-capacity magazines was reversed. The opinion was an appeal to an earlier U.S. District Court ruling from last December in favor of New York-based Trinity Church, which filed the lawsuit in April 2014 after the retail giant refused to bring the proposal to shareholders and the Securities and Exchange Commission said it would not punish Wal-Mart for excluding it.
