Safety, shooting and gun ownership
Shooter's Log
By Bob Campbell: "Safety is the No. 1 focus when using any firearm. There are too many preventable accidents and deaths caused by people who do not go to the range to practice or who mishandle their weapons at home. Make sure you, and your loved ones, are trained and understand the safety rules. I am a man of many interests and try not to be single-minded. I look at every point of view and leave some things to those better qualified to comment. The NRA and Second Amendment Foundation best handle politics and the political-action front. After all, we have a two-party system, the Democrats and the Americans."

Hillary Clinton: America's gun culture is 'way out of balance'
Deseret News
Hillary Rodham Clinton said the nation's gun culture has gotten "way out of balance" and the U.S. needs to rein in the notion that "anybody can have a gun, anywhere, anytime." The former Secretary of State and potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate said the idea that anyone can have a gun is not in the "best interest of the vast majority of people." But she said that approach does not conflict with the rights of people to own firearms.

TSRA looking for executive director
TCHA
The Texas State Rifle Association is looking for an energetic, motivational self-starter with excellent communication and media skills for the position of executive director. The right candidate will be enthusiastic about shooting sports and adamant about Second Amendment rights. The candidate must be up-to-date on the issues surrounding firearm legislation and news as well as deeply involved in shooting sports, whether that be hunting, shooting competitions or shooting education and safety. The right candidate will be able to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including gun enthusiasts, legislators, media and the outside community, and parents and educators. Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken, are a must, with an emphasis on the relevance of TSRA membership.

Why you should be concerned about the new 'smart guns'
Forbes
Smart guns, which just entered the market, are firearms equipped with small embedded computers that are supposed to enhance safety by preventing anyone other than authorized parties from firing the weapons, and, in some cases, by ensuring that the guns only fire when aimed at inanimate targets.

Pistol stoppages and their causes
Officer.com
Pistol stoppages on the range are a common occurrence, and happen when the shooter causes the pistol to stop operating in the manner for which it was designed. The shooter causes the stoppage by failing to properly operate the firearm. Stoppages differ from malfunctions, which are described as the weapon or one of its components breaking. What's the likelihood of a pistol malfunctioning? A former USPSA national champion and gunsmith, Michael Plaxco, opines that a properly manufactured and maintained stock pistol should reliably function even with 1,000 rounds through it before cleaning. So what is the takeaway? Simply that stoppages are shooter induced and can be prevented.

The terminal vagueness of 'Everytown'
National Review Online
Well, well, well — another one bites the dust. No sooner had Michael Bloomberg's latest gun-control effort been launched upon an indifferent nation than the group's head honcho had announced that he was stepping down. "It's time for me to hand off the fight to somebody else," Everytown for Gun Safety's Executive Director, Mark Glaze, explained to Yahoo News recently.

Is the high-capacity 9mm the right gun for you?
Shooter's Log
By Bob Campbell: "Is high-capacity 9 millimeter the way to go? For some of us it is. I am aware of trends. I observe many and take notes until the trend asserts itself as more than a fad. Tradition takes longer to recognize: I am glad that when I run out of things to teach, I am still able to learn. I have noticed a trend among beginning students and also hardcore defense shooters. A number of shooters have experimented with different handguns although in the end chose a high-capacity 9mm pistol as a personal defense sidearm."

Exclusive: Regrets
Guns Magazine
Most gun owners have a story or two of regret, usually the result of ridding themselves of a beloved firearm. Call it "seller's remorse" or whatever, why anyone would sell a beloved firearm, is unknown. But, "beloved" at times gets redefined or at least reprioritized as we go through life. A variety of factors can contribute to this: Sometimes finances get tight and something's got to go to help pay a bill. Sometimes we are wooed by other firearms and something's got to go to pay for the cost of the new gun. Sometimes it is just sheer foolishness.

Diamondback DB FS Nine 9 mm Pistol
American Rifleman
Diamondback Firearms is still a relatively young manufacturer, having opened its doors in 2009. The company launched its product lines with diminutive striker-fired, polymer-frame pocket pistols, including the DB380 chambered in .380 ACP and the DB9 chambered for 9 mm. Diamondback then expanded its lineup to include AR-15 pattern rifles and pistols, available with proprietary fore-end configurations and unique color options. This year Diamondback is stepping up to the plate with its first full-size pistol, called the DB FS Nine chambered in 9 mm.
