Rick Perry brings the big guns to Texas
The Washington Times
As firearms manufacturers are run out of states where gun-grabbing governors are pushing through radical new laws, Gov. Rick Perry is all too happy to welcome them to the great state of Texas. The boom in new jobs and economic impact of a thriving industry in the Lone Star State shows how gun-control laws don't make anyone safer yet hurt states' economies.

Gun control debate may return as Republicans signal a new willingness to talk
The Washington Post
At least two Republican senators have signaled that they may reconsider their opposition to expanded national background checks for gun purchases, aides said, suggesting that the push for stricter gun laws could return as a top issue in Washington in the coming weeks. The gun debate appeared to be largely abandoned on Capitol Hill following a resounding defeat in the Senate. But a handful of lawmakers are showing a new eagerness to engage on the issue after gun-control groups launched campaigns against senators in both parties who voted against the background check proposal.

NRA Show 2013: Defensive shooting skills development
Guns & Ammo
If you made it to the defensive shooting skill development seminar taught by Rob Pincus at this year's NRA show in Houston, you may have thought for a moment you were doing yoga for gun enthusiasts. Pincus stood on a table demonstrating perfect form, while a room full of a couple hundred folks mimicked his movements, hands raised in the air. It was a thing of beauty.

Shooting while pregnant
JulieG Radio
Julie Golob, one of the most accomplished professional shooters in the world, writes: "Should I shoot while I am pregnant? The short answer? Consult with your doctor and your partner to make the right decision for you. You may just find that your doctor doesn't have much information on the matter and so for this episode I wanted to share links and resources I have found to be helpful when making my decision about when to stop shooting while expecting. There's also some good general information for shooters and especially those who have small children."

Virginia 2nd-grader suspended for pretending his pencil was a gun
New York Daily News
Where would the Founding Fathers stand on a right to bear pencils? A second-grader was suspended from school for two days for pretending his pencil was a gun while playing with his friend in class. "It's an effort to try to get kids not to bring any form of violence into the classroom, even if it's violent play," school spokesperson Bethanne Bradshaw said.

Study: Gun violence plummeted, but people think it increased
The Daily Caller
The reality of declining gun violence in America is starkly at odds with public perception, a new study finds. The gun homicide rate shrank by 49 percent between 1993 and 2010, according to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center. Violent crime rates surged in the 1960s and 1970s, peaked in the 1980s and early 1990s and then began to fall dramatically. The decline leveled off in the early 2000s, but resumed in 2007.

Schumer: US needs to block 3-D plastic guns like 'The Liberator' from Defense Distributed
New York Daily News
A Texas company released blueprints for making a plastic gun with a 3-D printer — a development Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called "stomach-churning." Defense Distributed, a collective of gun access advocates headed by self-described "free-market anarchist" Cody Wilson, has announced it made such an untraceable gun with the new plastic-making technology. The nonprofit Texas group posted blueprints for "The Liberator" online. The Liberator may look like a toy, but "this gun can fire regular bullets," Schumer said, calling for legislation outlawing the technology's weapons potential.

In Texas, Armed Citizens Project will give you a gun

You know about gun buybacks. Well, Texas has gun giveaways. A new organization based in Houston is handing out free pump-action shotguns to homeowners in high-crime neighborhoods. It's an initiative that may sound crazy to some New Yorkers. But the man behind the nonprofit has the Big Apple squarely in his sights. "New York and Chicago are on our high-priority list," said Kyle Coplen, 29. "We are going to be there by the end of the year."
