House approves $20 million more for gun background checks

The U.S. House on May 29 passed legislation to provide an additional $20 million to incentivize states to submit more records into the federal instant background-check system, handing gun-control advocates a modest win on the issue after a series of high-profile defeats at the federal level.

Officials: Man interrupts store robbery, kills attacker

A man shot and killed a suspected armed robber recently during a gun battle in a northeast Harris County shopping center parking lot. The 28-year-old man, a former Marine, was eating lunch about 12:30 p.m. when he saw two suspicious men outside a Game Stop store along Wallisville near the East Sam Houston Tollway, authorities said.

UC Santa Barbara school shooting: Mental health vs. gun control

A gunman went on a drive by shooting spree on the night of Friday, May 23, at the University of Santa Barbara campus. These shootings left seven people dead and another eight injured. Many media outlets say that the answer to this is gun control; that banning guns, and changing the regulations connected to gun ownership, is the key. This is also often the focus when it comes to school shootings as well, the gun, not the mental health of the gunman.

Georgia man fatally shoots intruder during home invasion

A Georgia man fatally shot 1 of 2 intruders during a home invasion late night on May 27. The Marietta homeowner heard banging on his door around 11 p.m. and moments later, two men came barging into his residence, one of them screaming. The homeowner shot one of the suspects, Michael Verucci, 30, and watched as the other one fled in a vehicle that was waiting outside, Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
