Report on guns, ordered by Obama, says self defense is common, gun carriers less likely to be harmed
Guns Save Lives
Ever wonder why the Obama administration and Joe "Double Barrels to the Sky" Biden aren't touting this recent study done by the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council, under the directive of the Centers for Disease Control? Oh, could it because it actually contains facts and actually many of those facts contained in the report are actually positive reasons for gun ownership?
Obama administration pushes new public health research agenda on gun control
Fox News
In the near future, Americans who own or want guns likely will be subject to rafts of new questions from social scientists, medical researchers and law enforcement officials intent to discover just what guns they own, why they own them and what they intend to use them for — Not to mention where and how they keep them.

Taking aim with good vision
By Denise A. Valenti
In a Gallup poll survey, 4 in 10 American citizens reported having a gun in their household with many reporting multiple uses for the guns. The poll showed three main uses: crime protection (67 percent), target shooting (66 percent) and hunting (58 percent). No matter the use, it is important to have optimum visual function in order to achieve maximum safety and the greatest success whether the use is recreational, protection or vocational.

Giffords and Kelly touring to revive background checks
CNN
Former congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and husband Mark Kelly are hitting the road to try bolstering support for extending background checks on gun sales, a prospect that failed earlier this year but that gun control supporters have vowed to continue pursuing. The week-long "Rights and Responsibilities Tour," which begins July 1, will "rally supporters and remind elected officials that our cherished Second Amendment rights demand great responsibility," according to a press release from Kelly and Giffords' gun control group Americans for Responsible Solutions.
2nd Colorado lawmaker faces recall effort for gun control vote
Fox News
Less than a week after the Colorado secretary of state's office certified a recall effort against a Colorado lawmaker who supported gun control, a recall petition against a second Democrat who supported the strict gun measures has been deemed sufficient. Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler said that opponents of Sen. Angela Giron, of Pueblo, turned in nearly 13,000 valid signatures to prompt a recall election. They only needed to submit 11,285.

Why the AR-15 is more than just a gun
WBUR-FM
Vice President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid insist that gun control legislation is not dead — they say they're strategizing on how to bring the issue back to the Senate floor. Even if it does return, one proposal unlikely to survive is an assault weapons ban. Military-style assault rifles now form a nearly $1 billion industry supported by gun owners who spend thousands of dollars collecting these firearms.
Study: 1st-time gun buyers
NSSF
A study commissioned by the National Shooting Sports Foundation reveals that first-time gun buyers are largely active in one or more shooting activities and that women are motivated to purchase their first firearm predominately for personal defense. NSSF is the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industry.
Smith & Wesson gun maker doubles earnings over past months
The Washington Times
Smith & Wesson Holding Corp., one of the nation's foremost gun manufacturers, has more than doubled its earnings in the past few months. The reason for the revenue rise is simple, company executives say in their most recent quarterly earnings report: Demand is huge. Sales have surged since the December shooting at Sandy Hook in Newtown, Conn., in anticipation of federal crackdown on Second Amendment rights, The Wall Street Journal reported. For the second quarter in a row, executives say they are struggling to meet demand — even though they've adjusted and expanded production lines.
