Federal court defends right to keep and bear arms
NRA-ILA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois ruled recently that it is unconstitutional for Chicago to treat people with nonviolent misdemeanor convictions the same as convicted felons. The NRA-supported case, Gowder v. Chicago, involves plaintiff Shawn Gowder, who was convicted as a first-time offender for mere possession of a firearm in violation of Illinois law in 1995. His misdemeanor record did not block him from getting a state Firearm Owner's Identification card, so he could still legally possess a gun in Illinois. Nonetheless, when Gowder, who lives in a high crime area of Chicago, began the process to legally acquire a handgun to keep in his home for self-defense the Chicago police denied his application. Gowder sued the city, maintaining that Chicago's law banning nonviolent misdemeanants from possessing guns in their homes for self-defense is unconstitutionally vague, and that it violates the Second Amendment. Google's anti-gun policy
National Shooting Sports Foundation    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Google, a company that should know better than to censor the flow of online information, has chosen to ban search results related to firearms and other products it deems not "family safe" in its Google Shopping function. Until recently, gun-related products appeared just like other products in search results, giving shoppers a powerful price-comparison tool; but not anymore. Google's new, anti-gun policy, announced May 31, assigns a family status to all products. Products in the "nonfamily safe" or adult categories are blocked from Google Shopping and include guns, ammunition and knives, vehicles, tobacco and traffic devices such as radar scramblers. More

Finding Eric Holder in contempt was necessary to discover the truth
US News & World Report    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Attorney General Eric Holder's contempt of Congress is surpassed only by his contempt for the Second Amendment. With Holder as its primary spokesman, the Obama administration perpetuated the lie that "90 percent" of firearms used in Mexican crime come from the United States, for no other reason than to promote its agenda of banning commonly owned firearms. In Operation Fast and Furious, agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives pressured reluctant federally-licensed firearms dealers to make sales to known straw purchasers with the intention of allowing those firearms to be trafficked to Mexican drug cartels. Opposition to UN arms treaty heats up
The Hill    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Some 130 lawmakers sent President Barack Obama a letter expressing their opposition to a pending arms trade treaty if it impinges on gun rights and U.S. sovereignty in any way. The United Nations will begins a month-long process of crafting a long-delayed treaty to create international standards for importing and exporting conventional weapons. Proponents say the treaty would bring much of the rest of the world in line with U.S. standards without affecting domestic sales, but gun enthusiasts are worried. More

Congressmen urge the UN to trample the US Constitution
The Daily Caller    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
July 2 began the most important 26-day period for our Second Amendment freedoms in recent history. That's because representatives from many of the world's socialist, tyrannical and dictatorial regimes will gather at United Nations headquarters in New York for a month-long meeting, in which they'll put the finishing touches on an international Arms Trade Treaty that could seriously restrict your freedom to own, purchase and carry a firearm. Specifically, the U.N. wants to implement international gun registration requirements, bans on commonly owned firearms, tracking and registration of ammunition purchases and create a new U.N. gun control bureaucracy. Gunning for DC
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The District of Columbia's refusal to recognize the full meaning of the Second Amendment may not last much longer. A Supreme Court decision in 2008 forced Washington to allow residents to keep arms and now Congress is pressuring the city to recognize the next part of that constitutional mandate: the right to bear them. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid refuses to allow a floor vote on the House-passed national-reciprocity, concealed-carry bill because he knows it might actually pass. Sen. Rand Paul is trying to force the Nevada Democrat's hand. "The Senate shouldn't be about the majority party cherry-picking what they want to vote on," Paul told The Washington Times. "Harry Reid will only vote if he can win." More

Lawmakers against concealed-carry bill becoming law
Richmond County Daily Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Some North Carolina lawmakers are uncomfortable with a bill making its way through the State's House and Senate. House Bill 111 is currently stalled in the House Finance Committee but supporters such as Grassroots North Carolina are pressuring lawmakers — through traditional and social media — to push the bill to a vote before the end of this legislative session. Rep. Ken Goodman of Rockingham, N.C., voted against the bill, but said he would bet it will become law if it gets a chance on the Senate floor. More

Sales up at Florida gun shops, more customers want concealed carry permits
WFTX-TV    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Joe Whitcomb, 24, isn't taking any chances. "It's getting crazy out there, you see all the killings," said Whitcomb, of Fort Myers, Fla. The 14 homicides so far in Fort Myers has Whitcomb stocking up on ammo for his safety. "Or maybe to protect somebody else's life if their life was in jeopardy," added Whitcomb. Whitcomb is one of about 30,908 concealed weapon holders in Lee County. Instructors at Fowler Firearms in Fort Myers say they're seeing more new customers than ever before. "It's pretty much common knowledge that this place isn't safe and it is not gonna get safer," expressed Josh Hackman, an instructor there. They cite the rash of violence as a driver for both concealed carry classes and guns sales. More
