Gun Marshals in school: Training begins in Texas
KETK-TV
Richard Martinez's son was killed after a shooting on the University of California Santa Barbara campus this May. Out of that tragedy came the rallying cry, "Not one more!" Some folks think the answer is gun control. In Texas, we're gonna try arming teachers with concealed weapons. Texas State Rep. Jason Villalba wrote The Protection of Texas Children Act, which allows school districts to create a School Marshal in all K-12 schools.

Open-carry push has Texas in its sights
The Wall Street Journal
Activists bringing rifles into Texas chain stores in recent weeks have put the state at the center of a national fight over "open-carry" laws, reinforcing many Americans' perception of the Lone Star State as a haven for gun rights. In reality, Texas has one of the nation's more restrictive laws on the carrying of handguns — a policy that firearms-rights groups and state legislators are fighting to change. Those efforts, however, have been unsuccessful: Legislation in recent years proposing to allow people to carry handguns visibly has stalled.

Like a glove: Picking a handgun to fit your grip
Handguns
Grip, one of the fundamentals of marksmanship, is a determining factor in your ability to shoot, operate and control your handgun. Since grip is the interface between you and your gun, it’s important to select a handgun that fits your hand properly. A gun’s weight and caliber are also important considerations. One thing is certain. When it comes to defensive handguns, one size does not fit all.

Order issued in suit by Texas gun rights group
KSAT-TV
A federal judge has granted a temporary restraining order preventing a North Texas city from enforcing an ordinance that a gun rights group says violates its free speech rights. The court order issued July 14 puts the Arlington ordinance — barring people from handing out printed material at busy intersections and roads — on hold while a lawsuit filed by Open Carry Tarrant County is resolved.

US military successfully tests self-guided bullets
AmmoLand
In a video released by DARPA, Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance (EXACTO) .50-caliber bullets maneuvered independently mid-flight to accurately strike targets purposefully offset from where the firing sniper rifle was aimed. Wired reported in 2012 the first successful prototype test of the military’s first-ever guided small-caliber bullets, developed by Sandia National Laboratories and Lockheed Martin. Around four inches long, the bullets feature optical tips to detect laser beams shown on targets.

Gun-rights group's lawsuit challenges interstate limits on purchases
The Dallas Morning News
A gun rights group and a North Texas dealer are challenging federal law that limits gun buyers to purchasing handguns only in the state where they live. The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Fort Worth. Arlington retailer Fredric Russell Mance Jr. and two Washington, D.C., residents are also part of the suit from the Washington state-based group. The suit questions why Federal law allows Americans to purchase rifles and shotguns across state lines but not handguns, arguing that the restriction “reduces competition, raises prices and limits consumers’ choice.”

Lubbock resident Renegar wins state trap shooting competition
Lubbock-Avalanche Journal
All Jeff Renegar had left to do was wait. He had shot out 97 of the 100 targets at the 2014 Texas State Trap Shoot in San Antonio, but for five hours all he could do was watch the scoreboard. “I was relatively early in the day to finish,” Renegar said. “246 competitors, and there was lots of sweating every time people would come in.”
