First and Second Amendment wins for Open Carry Tarrant County

The First and Second Amendments of the Bill of Rights are essential for supporting each other. The First Amendment is essential to support the Second, while the Second Amendment provides the means to protect the first. It is clear that the open carry of firearms is itself a strong political message. Openly carrying a gun is protected political speech. In Texas, open carry activists have been pushing hard to have the right to open carry modern handguns restored.

A few years ago, Josh Waldron started up a company that makes silencers or suppressors for guns and rifles. This year, he expects around $20 million in sales. "This is nothing new to the world, and we have a lot of history of these being safety products and not the contrary," Waldron said. Why are sales for silencers on the rise? Waldron says gun owners want to protect their hearing. Why not just wear earmuffs or earplugs?

Bonham ISD superintendent shares Defender Program

Bonham School Superintendent Dr. Marvin Beaty shared with the Rotary Club how the district will address the threat of an intruder on campus. With the increase of school shootings, this has been an unfortunate reality which the Bonham School District Board of Trustees has been forced to face. The security program, which allows some BISD staff to carry concealed handguns on campus, will be fully implemented when school begins. A select group of volunteers has trained and undergone extensive CHL and psychological testing in order to participate.

Texas Governor Rick Perry welcomes Texas International Firearms Festival

Texas Governor Rick Perry is publicly welcoming the Texas International Firearms Festival (TIFF) to Austin, Texas, on Nov. 8-9, 2014. Held at Best of the West Shooting Sports outside of Austin, the two day festival will feature a host of America’s top firearms and firearms accessory manufacturers. Those in attendance will have the chance to test-fire handguns, rifles and shotguns from a variety of manufacturers including: ArmaLite, Advanced Armament, Barrett, Beretta, FNH, GLOCK, Henry Repeating Rifles, McMillan, PWS, SIG SAUER, SilencerCo, the Silencer Shop, SlideFire, Springfield Armory, Tracking Point, Underground Tactical, Winchester and others.

Texas resident elected to Ducks Unlimited's national board of directors

David Feckley, of Wylie, was elected to Ducks Unlimited Inc.’s national board of directors during the organization’s annual convention in St. Louis. “The leadership of our board of directors ensures we are fulfilling our mission to conserve, restore and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl,” said DU CEO Dale Hall. “Our board members are not paid for their work. Heidi Ra knows a lot about guns and so do her four children who range in age from 4 to 12. "’What's your favorite part about coming to the range?’ Shooting," said 7-year-old John John. The boys have been shooting and hunting their entire lives. "’What's your favorite part?’ I like hitting the target and having fun," said 10-year-old Matthew. And that’s just the way their parents want it. "We try to get our kids exposed as early of an age as possible," said Heidi Ra.

What do US government sanctions of Russian firearm makers mean for US gun imports?

On July 16, the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) announced new sanctions on persons and entities in Russia determined to be contributing to the situation in Ukraine (the “Ukraine Sanctions”). The announcement added four individuals and eleven companies to the list of Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) pursuant to Executive Order 13662, dated March 20, 2014. SDNs include individuals and entities located anywhere in the world that are owned or controlled by, or that act for or on behalf of the government of a sanctioned country.
