Study: Most 1st-time gun buyers, especially women, choose firearms for home and self-defense
Guns.com
It's no secret that Americans own lots of guns. In fact, gun ownership in the country has risen, even before the latest gun control debate sparked an even greater increase in gun sales to which the market is still recovering from in some areas. The National Shooting Sports Foundation recently conducted a study to see just who the new gun buyers were — demographically, not personally — what types of guns they were buying, where they were purchasing them from, how much they were spending and what their experience levels were, among other details.

Examining Texas' Castle Doctrine
KTXA-TV
The "not guilty" verdict in the George Zimmerman murder in Florida case has some national groups calling for review of so-called "Stand Your Ground" laws. Texas has a similar law called "The Castle Doctrine," as in your home is your castle, and like Florida, it's part of wider laws about self-defense.

Firearm laws: Understanding when to shoot
KRIV-TV
John Donnelly, a Fox 26 reporter, says: "As I walk out of an office building and head to my rental car, a man appears and demands my keys. He has a gun in his waistband. I put my hand on my gun. He makes a move for his and fires two shots, I fire two back and hit him. He goes down. The man is about to try to steal my car. This isn't real. I didn't just really shoot my attacker. I'm at a training simulator at Athena Gun Club and Instructor Rick Bongiovanni is putting me through the ringer."

Nullify federal gun control locally in Texas
Tenth Amendment Center
Earlier this year, the Texas State House took a huge step toward protecting the right to keep and bear arms in Texas, approving a bill that would have rendered almost all federal gun control measures toothless by a wide margin. But Senate gamesmanship doomed HB928 in the upper chamber. Rep. Matthew Krause, R-District 93, reintroduced the legislation for consideration in special session, but Gov. Rick Perry has indicated there will be no special session to consider gun bills.

Rep. Jackson Lee introduces bill to cut funds to stand-your-ground states
The Daily Caller
Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee reintroduced the Justice Exists for Us All Act to Congress. The bill, which the Texas Democrat stated is a response to the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, would pressure states to drop stand-your-ground laws, which assert that citizens can use force for self-defense rather than being required to retreat from dangerous situations.

Glock 23 Gen 4 40 S&W, $650
Gun Reports
We were able to get our hands on two mighty popular guns for this test, a couple of the potent 40-caliber mid-size pistols that we also compare to the two forties we tested in the March 2013 issue. This time we look at the Glock 23 Gen 4 (MSRP $650) and the Taurus 24/7 G2C (MSRP $555). We tested with the same ammo types, Remington 155-grain JHP, Black Hills 165-grain JHP, and American Eagle 180-grain FMC with its truncated-cone design.
