Zimmerman verdict sparks interest in insurance programs that defend gun owners
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
The Florida acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager who Zimmerman said he shot in self-defense, has resulted in a surge of business for a Texas company that insures gun owners. "People who have seen what happened to Zimmerman began to consider their own circumstances and asked how would their life be affected if something like that happened to them," said attorney Edwin Walker, co-founder of Texas Law Shield.

Do you truly understand Texas gun laws
Houston Forward Times
Many of you have probably heard the phrase, "Ignorance of the law is no excuse," but do you really know what it means? The phrase, which derives from the Latin phrase, "Ignorantia legis neminem excusat," is a legal doctrine which states that even if a person claims to be unaware of what a law means, it doesn't allow them the ability to avoid the consequence or liability that comes as a result of violating that law.

Gun owners peacefully protest in McAllen
The Brownsville Herald
Nearly 70 people — many carrying assault weapons, hunting rifles and shotguns — gathered outside the McAllen Police Department, demonstrating their open carry rights. Open Carry Texas, which advocates for gun rights, organized the peaceful protest two days after police arrested Zach W. Horton, 37, of Little Elm, for carrying an assault-style weapon near the McAllen Public Safety Building. Police charged Horton with carrying a weapon where prohibited, a third-degree felony.

Democratic anti-gun 'guide' urged using Trayvon Martin's death to hit NRA, guns
The Washington Examiner
Newly uncovered Democratic anti-NRA talking points urge anti-gun advocates and politicians to hype high-profile gun incidents like the Florida slaying of Trayvon Martin to win support for new gun control laws. In talking points likely followed by top Democratic leaders including President Obama after the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings in December, the anti-gun "guide" urged gun foes to speak out when a shooting "creates a unique climate" to shout down the National Rifle Association.

Editorial: Stubborn facts
The Richmond Times-Dispatch
These are trying times for advocates of gun control. Facts stubbornly refuse to go their way. Climate-change denialists are wrong, but at least they can take comfort in a statistical anomaly. Despite increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, the world has seen a 15-year pause in global warming. Advocates of gun control are not so lucky. In recent years sales of guns and ammo have gone through the roof. According to standard liberal doctrine, this should have led to an orgy of bloodshed.

Guns in church, the debate over armed preachers heats up
The Huffington Post
Every email Carl Chinn sends features the same signature: His name, followed by Chapter 4, Verse 9 from the Book of Nehemiah. "We prayed to our God and posted a guard." On Sept. 10, Chinn will lead a seminar for several local, faith-based organizations in Oak Creek, Wis., the same community where a gunman opened fire in a Sikh temple, killing six people and wounding four others. Chinn, a church security consultant, will suggest arming designating church-goers during services.
