Issue over concealed handguns crops up at Republican National Convention
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram via The Kansas City Star    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson likes to be prepared. So when he headed to Florida to attend this week's Republican National Convention, he had his concealed handgun with him, as he usually does. "It's like a smoke detector. You don't know when you'll need it, but you keep fresh batteries in it anyway," said Patterson, a delegate to the convention. As a state senator 17 years ago, Patterson carried the legislation that legalized concealed handguns in Texas. "I carry everywhere it's lawful," he said. More

Gun Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Without a doubt, the Aug. 11 announcement of U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., as Mitt Romney's pick for the GOP Vice President candidate immediately sent waves coursing throughout the outdoors community. Why? Simple. Paul Ryan is a diehard outdoorsman. He loves to hunt and get outside with his family. More

Concealed weapons will eventually save lives
Kearney Hub    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
One of these days, some angry lunatic, armed to the teeth and answering to some crazed motivation, will draw his weapon in a college building or a movie theater or who knows where and begin slaughtering innocent victims. And one of these days — given the growing popularity of concealed carry weapon laws — some potential victim is going to draw his or her weapon, and stop the crazed lunatic before the carnage unfolds. Why the rise in female firearms ownership is good for America
NSSF    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It was big news recently when Augusta National Golf Club admitted the first female members in its history. While this may be a big step for the golf world, there has never been a lack of participation by women in the shooting community. The tapestry of the American West is woven with the stories of amazing women sharpshooters from Annie Oakley to Calamity Jane. Each cut a trail across the parched landscape with guns-a-blazin' adding to the richness of American history. More

What makes a gun safe stand up to a fire?    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Let's assume you have an emergency action plan, adequate insurance and a support network of friends and family who will take you in. Everything is in order. But you want to protect as much as possible, including your guns and so you would like to have a good, fire resistant safe. What should you consider? Let's begin again with this question, again: "what are you trying to protect and from what?" More

The Women of Dallas are armed and dangerous, thanks to Mama Jeanie
Dallas Observer    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Her rhinestone-studded sunglasses shading her from the harsh July sun, Jeanie Almond purposefully paces the range, hands clasped behind her back, her short blonde hair tucked behind her ears. She's watching her 16-year-old granddaughter, tall and blonde with purple streaks, shoot International bunker trap — an Olympic game with 15 traps that send clay targets bursting into the sky at about 90 miles per hour. They fly up and out over the property of the Dallas Gun Club, the gun enthusiast's mecca in Lewisville. More

Ammunition bans are a sneaky attempt to deny self-defense options
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Gun grabbers aren't getting far in their attempt to ban handguns, so the next best step is to go after ammunition. They use scary terms to demonize ordinary self-defense equipment, hoping this will make Americans more comfortable with their incremental effort to diminish and ultimately eliminate the Second Amendment. Oklahoma Self Defense Act: Applications on the rise for concealed weapon licenses
The Shawnee News-Star    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Applications for those seeking a concealed weapon license through Oklahoma's Self Defense Act appear to be on the rise in Pottawatomie County. And when the law changes Nov. 1, those with licenses also can choose to openly carry their weapons. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation processes SDA applications and keeps statistics by year. In 2011, the OSBI approved 24,018 SDA permits statewide and denied 975 applications. For those in Pottawatomie County, 442 licenses were approved in 2011. More

Gun review: Kahr P45 gets high marks
Gun Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Dave Workman: "Chambered for the potent .45 ACP, the Kahr P45 and its variations, the PT45 and CW45, are very good striker-fired handguns. The Kahr P45 has a polymer frame that is textured all around the grip for a firm hold that grips well even in the damp Pacific Northwest, where my co-worker Thomas McKiddie makes his home. He has a Kahr P45 and he raves about it. Despite having fired a fair number of Kahr semi-automatic pistols over the years, I have never owned one. This is no reflection on my high opinion of these pistols. After all, if I owned every neat pistol I've ever shot, there wouldn't be enough room in my house for me." More
