North Texas hunters and gun enthusiasts will have a new excuse to go shooting soon — in a spacious and comfortable atmosphere to boot. The Frisco Gun Club and Academy is set to open in 2013, boasting 43,000-square-feet of building space. Ray Symons, CHL instructor at the DFW Gun Range and Training Center, said the new location is going to be something special. More

Texans among those taking Virginia online gun course
The Associated Press via The Eagle    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Virginia is issuing a rising number of concealed-carry gun permits to people who live in other states in a trend that may be helped along by online gun classes. The commercial courses allow applicants to seek a permit from Virginia that is valid in their state, but without having to meet tougher requirements their home states may impose, such as firing a gun with an instructor. Texas requires applicants for its concealed handgun permit to complete a 10- to 15-hour course. Along with passing a written exam, applicants must score at least 70 percent in firing 50 rounds from a handgun at three different distances. More

Gun sales continue to rise as election nears    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The demand for firearms shows no sign of slowing down a firearms industry report indicated along with revenue reports and projections from gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson. According to a recent report by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, background checks increased almost 30 percent in the month of August when compared to numbers from the previous year. More

PrOlix® is a biodegradeable, non-petroleum based solvent/lubricant for firearms. PrOlix® solvent seeks out dirt, oils, grime, etc. (even in small and impossible areas) and floats it away. The chemical action during cleaning develops the DRY lubricant and it is drawn into the pores of the material, creating a skin of protection.

Dianne Feinstein lays out plans for re-election, renewing the federal assault weapons ban
The Sacramento Bee    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In the middle of a speech focused largely on the presidential race, Republican policies and propositions back home, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., took a few minutes to talk about her own bid on the ballot this year. Feinstein, who is seeking a fourth full term in the Senate, pledged to continue to protect abortion rights, fight for new legislation to renew the federal assault weapons ban and pursue an overhaul of immigration laws. After a self-defense shooting... Do what the police say
Gun Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Recently, a 92-year-old Kentucky man used a .22 rifle to successfully defend his home from three intruders. His story of self defense is not really about concealed carry, it is more about home defense. But there is an important element of which everyone needs to be aware. The homeowner did two things wrong: After the incident he called his neighbors instead of calling the police and when police arrived and told him to put up his hands he told police, "I'm not putting my hands up." He survived, but the situation could have been a disaster. More

CNN    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The long-awaited report on the controversial ATF gun-trafficking operation known as Fast and Furious will be issued by the Justice Department inspector general not later than the morning of Sept. 11. The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform announced that DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz will testify before the committee headed by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., on Sept. 11, after the report has been made public. Attorney General Eric Holder has said he will await the report to decide what disciplinary actions he will take against those determined to be responsible for the flawed investigation. More

Pickup break-in leads victims to open fire
San Antonio Express-News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Two men fired at individuals who allegedly broke into their pickup and stole several weapons from the cab, police said. A pair of men who fled in a tan or gold SUV with bullet-hole damage on the driver's side door remained at large. Investigators still were determining whether the concealed handgun permit holders who fired on the pair will face charges for using deadly force to defend their property. Police said it didn't appear they would. More

Help NRA-ILA identify non-compliance among employers of Texas parking lot protection law
Ammo Land    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Sept. 1 will mark the one-year anniversary of Senate Bill 321 taking effect in Texas. As reported on by the NRA-ILA during the 2011 Legislative Session, this bill is the NRA-backed employee parking lot protection law sponsored by state Senator Glenn Hegar, R-Katy, and state Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, R-Lexington, that was signed into law by Gov. Rick Perry in June of 2011. More

Gun review: New Colt Mustang    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The concealed carry debate is oddly contentious. Some devoted readers will dismiss the Colt Mustang because it is a .380, no other reason. They won't look at a pocket pistol chambered in anything other than 9mm, or .45 ACP. The .380 can be effective. It is certainly effective enough for a backup gun. More
