Obama suggests he would seek to revive ban on assault weapons
Reuters    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney engaged in a rare tussle over gun control at the recent debate and Obama opened the door to pushing for a ban on assault weapons if he wins a second term. During their second election debate, both men largely danced around a gun-control question, a reflection of how they are wary of offending voters who support gun rights. More

How many places can you legally conceal a gun?
Birmingham News    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Nearly 160,000 men and women are licensed to carry concealed handguns in Alabama's large metropolitan areas, according to the sheriffs who issue the annual permits and rely on the fees they generate to keep their deputies equipped and rolling. But the same decentralized system that gives Alabama sheriffs discretion on who gets a carry permit also means no central record of how many permits exist in the state and no central record of who has them or who has been denied a permit. PrOlix® is a biodegradeable, non-petroleum based solvent/lubricant for firearms. PrOlix® solvent seeks out dirt, oils, grime, etc. (even in small and impossible areas) and floats it away. The chemical action during cleaning develops the DRY lubricant and it is drawn into the pores of the material, creating a skin of protection.

Obama administration still trying to cover up Fast & Furious
Ammo Land    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Fast & Furious is in the news again. The Obama administration recently filed court papers to get the lawsuit filed by the House of Representatives against Attorney General Eric Holder thrown out. The House lawsuit asks the court to reject a claim of executive privilege by the President, who sealed thousands of documents relating to Fast & Furious, a Justice Department operation that facilitated the smuggling of thousands of U.S. weapons south of the border. Firearms industry thrives under Obama presidency despite concerns Democrat would be anti-gun
Newser    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
President Barack Obama has presided over a heyday for the gun industry despite predictions by the National Rifle Association four years ago that he would be the "most anti-gun president in American history." Gun buyers fear that Obama wants to restrict their purchases, especially if he were re-elected. More

The key word in the Second Amendment — infringed — means the government has no business violating our right to keep and bear arms — period. There is no hedging, no "only if" or "unless." Recent court decisions have upheld that reasoning. Yet despite the above, many elected or would-be candidates, at all levels of government, harbor a deep urge to infringe on the Second Amendment. Thus, if you're a target shooter, hunter or simply someone who owns a firearm for self-defense, you should be concerned. Fortunately, there's an option — a way to prevent that infringement. More

Single action backup carry: The cocked-and-locked debate    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
David Higginbotham writes: "A couple of weeks ago, I picked up a new Colt mustang to review. I couldn't be happier with the gun (unless it shot a larger round). But I respect the .380. It works. But I've talked to a number of people who balk at the idea of carrying a single action pistol. I'm not talking about those folks who carry a full sized single-action duty weapon, like a 1911. I mean concealed carry. Many shooters prefer the simplicity of the double-action-only polymer pocket rockets. Less trouble. More

More than 9,900 women have concealed gun permits in Alabama
Mobile Press-Register    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The 9,953 concealed weapon permits owned by women overall in 2011 outpaced the number owned by African-American men and women by 744. Gene Newman, a National Rifle Association field representative for Alabama and Mississippi, said he is not surprised by the numbers. He said one reason is because women are the fastest-growing population in the gun industry nationwide. More

Ex-justice urges next Congress and president to restrict the Second Amendment
The Washington Times    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens demonstrated the importance of America's upcoming presidential choice as he spoke to the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Justice Stevens told the assembled gun grabbers of the urgent need for Congress to adopt laws restricting the right to keep and bear arms. As the author of the dissenting opinions in the Heller and McDonald cases, which affirmed the right of individuals to keep handguns in the home, Justice Stevens said the high court precedent still allows new laws rolling back our rights. 12-year-old girl shoots home intruder    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
For 12-year-olds, getting a day off from school for fall break is like a dream come true. But for one preteen girl of Bryan County, Okla., that mini-vacation almost turned into a nightmare. According to KTEN news, a 12-year-old girl was home alone when a man she didn't recognize knocked on the door. She wisely chose not to answer, but the man, Stacy Jones of Texarkana, Texas, took matters into his own hands. He went around to the back of the house and kicked in the door. The girl, whose name has not been released, did what any kid would do: She ran and hid in a closet. Instead of grabbing a stuffed animal for comfort, though, she grabbed a cell phone and a .40-caliber Glock. More
