Wheelchair-bound jewelry store owner with handgun stops robbery

An attempt to rob a jewelry store in Alcoa, Tenn., didn't go as planned when the store owner, though confined to a wheelchair, fought back by pulling out his pistol. It was about 4:30 when the first suspect, 21-year-old Steven Grant Cash, entered the store and went to the restroom. At that time the second suspect, 24-year-old Jordan Michael Echols, entered the store in an attempt to distract the store owner, Danny Malone, local media reports.

Texas concealed handgun license murder rates

Texas is one of the few states that tracks crimes committed by concealed carry weapon permit holders. In Texas, the permit is called a concealed handgun license, or CHL. The Texas Department of Public Safety has filed annual reports of the convictions of CHL holders from 1996 through 2011. They wait two years to obtain final conviction information before publishing the totals.

It seems anytime a new firearm technology hits the market, certain people line up with a host of terrifying reasons to ban it. Remember when Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., suggested a ban on the importation of Glocks because they'd slip through metal detectors? Obviously that's not true, given the Glock's metal springs, firing pin, steel slide and barrel. However, using similar logic, Schumer has found a new, recently invented target — 3-D printed guns.

West Virginia enters concealed weapons agreements with Iowa, New Hampshire

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey says mutual agreements have been made with Iowa and New Hampshire to recognize West Virginia concealed weapons permits, and for West Virginia to recognize permits from those states.

The TSA set a new record for guns found at airports

Agents of the Transportation Security Administration have discovered more than 1,500 guns at airport checkpoints year to date, a record for the agency. In 2012, the TSA set a record when it discovered more than 1,500 guns. At this rate, the agency responsible for manning security at United States airports is on track to discover more than 1,800 guns in 2013.
