Celebrity gun manufacturer sets up shop in Texas
The Texas Tribune
Following efforts by Gov. Rick Perry to convince gun manufacturers to relocate to Texas, a celebrity firearm maker has set up shop here, citing the state's pro-Second Amendment attitude. "Texas is very business friendly, and more guns are legal here," high-end motorcycle magnate Jesse James told The Texas Tribune at a launch party for his new company, Jesse James Firearms Unlimited.

There's no stopping 3-D printed guns
National Review
In Austin, Texas, an engineering firm called Solid Concepts printed the first fully functional metal handgun. "It's actually a funny story," the firm's spokeswoman Alyssa Parkinson tells me. "A couple of months ago, two engineers frustrated with reading that laser sintering wasn't as accurate or strong as other manufacturing techniques decided to put a gun together." Slowly the pair developed the blueprints and specced the parts, and eventually had a functional .45 ACP 1911. "They weren't sure how the company's VPs would react," Parkinson laughs.

Texas gun supporters divided on best approach to legalizing open carry
Fort Worth Star-Telegram
In Texas, where toting guns is as second nature to some as wearing cowboy hats, there's a rare and growing divide over firearms. Many Second Amendment supporters are united on the end goal: Changing the way guns are carried in Texas and letting handgun owners openly carry their firearms. But they disagree on how to get there.

Opposing Views
Texas gun activists asserted their right to bear arms with alarming zeal as they prepared for President Obama's visit to the Dallas Area Interfaith group, where he spoke about the Affordable Care Act on Nov. 6. On the Gun Rights Across America Texas and Texas Gun Rights Facebook pages, users expressed their plans, joking or otherwise, to make it known to President Obama that he was not welcome in their state, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence reported.

Dems vow passage of background check bill
The Hill
Far from dead, legislation expanding background checks before gun sales still has a chance of passing this Congress, Democratic leaders in the House and Senate said. While the background check issue has been dormant on Capitol Hill since the Senate shot down such a proposal earlier in the year, Democrats argue that enough pressure on House GOP leaders would return the topic to prominence — and force a floor vote — before next year's mid-term elections.

2 arrested following open carry protest
KTBC-TV
Two gun advocates were arrested at the Capitol during a Veterans Day ceremony. The president of open carry Texas, C.J. Grisham, was taken into custody while he was speaking on the north side of the capitol. While that was happening on the south Capitol steps a ceremony was underway to recognize veterans. The open carry group wants state lawmakers to make it legal to display a hand gun the same way it is currently legal to carry a long rifle out on the open.

Abbott calls for 'open carry,' greater privacy protections
KVUE-TV
Republican candidate for governor Greg Abbott said he supports making it legal to openly carry handguns in public and wants to place stricter limits on state agencies selling personal information from public records.
