Black Fridays most active for firearm sales
NSSF (blog)    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Post-election reports indicate a rising demand for firearms nationwide. If history holds true, sales on the day after Thanksgiving — Black Friday — will surely hit record territory, based on federal background check activity. (A background check is mandatory prior to the purchase of any firearm at retail. Background-check statistics are indicators of sales activity, though it's important to note that for a variety of reasons a one-to-one correlation cannot be made between a background check and a firearm purchase.) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott stands beside gun owners
Texas GOP Vote    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In the days leading up to the election, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued an opinion about an employer's ability to ban Texans with a Concealed Handgun License from leaving a gun locked in their private vehicle in a company parking lot. This is yet another example of the AG's steadfast support of the rights of an individual to protect themselves. The opinion, requested by Texas State Senator Robert Deuell, R-Greenville, said that Section 30.06 of the Texas penal code, which allows employers to post notices on building entrances restricting handguns or other firearms being carried on the premises, does not supersede the state law that protects CHL holders. PrOlix® is a biodegradeable, non-petroleum based solvent/lubricant for firearms. PrOlix® solvent seeks out dirt, oils, grime, etc. (even in small and impossible areas) and floats it away. The chemical action during cleaning develops the DRY lubricant and it is drawn into the pores of the material, creating a skin of protection.

Texas bills cover concealed handguns, distracted driving
Land Line    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Among the issues covered in the first week of bill filings for Texas' upcoming regular session are efforts to combine licenses for certain drivers, including truckers and reduce distracted driving. Rep. Van Taylor has filed a bill to combine concealed handgun licenses and driver's licenses, including commercial driver's licenses. The bill is HB158. Texas law requires concealed handgun license holders or CHL holders, to show their licenses to police when asked for identification, such as at a traffic stop. Taylor said that combining the licenses just makes sense. More

Cooperating with police
American Rifleman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
In a discussion about personal defense, there are many healthy conversations about guns, ammunition, gear, training, awareness and tactics. What is generally missing is any meaningful consideration of what happens after a defensive encounter. Following a dangerous encounter, whether shots have been fired or not, a person is going to be dealing with an enormous adrenaline rush, with emotions exploding to the surface. He or she may be flip-flopping between reliving what has just happened and trying to decide what should be done next. It can be a very confusing time. And, right in the middle of all of this, the police will be there wanting an explanation. More

Rep. Barton urges Obama not to sign UN Arms Trade Treaty
NRA-ILA    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Rep. Joe Barton and 75 of his colleagues in the House of Representatives recently introduced House Resolution 814 which urges the president not to sign the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty. The bipartisan resolution warns that if the president signs the treaty, which is being negotiated, it will not be binding and no federal funds will be appropriated to implement it unless it has consent by the Senate and has been the subject of implementing legislation by the Congress. After several delays, the Obama administration recently voted in the U.N. to move forward with negotiating the ATT. The next meeting on the ATT will take place during a March 2013 conference. More

Drunk home intruder raids fridge, gets shot    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
According to reports, 76-year-old Jack Boggess in Charleston, W.Va., awoke at around 3:30 a.m. to a sound in his house. He immediately phoned 911, and then went to investigate with his gun in tow. That's where the homeowner found Darin Lanning in nothing more than a t-shirt and his underwear eating food out of the homeowner's refrigerator. We've heard of getting munchies in the middle of the night, but breaking into a stranger's home for a snack is a little bit on the crazy side. More

Gun owners enter the fight of our lives
The Daily Caller    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The NRA has been saying all along that Barack Obama would unleash an assault on our Second Amendment freedoms if he won a second term. It sure didn't take long for him to prove us right. Just hours after Obama won re-election, his administration endorsed a new effort by the global gun grabbers at the United Nations to draft a gun ban treaty early 2013. The official starting point for the new talks is the 2011 failed draft, which contains provisions that threaten our sovereign right to keep and bear arms through an international gun registration scheme. Gun review: Para Warthog
American Rifleman    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
A compact .45, Para's Warthog delivers full-size stopping power in a carry-size package. Better yet, it features the ever-popular 1911 design. With its small size, ample stopping power and generous capacity, the Warthog is one that conceal carry practitioners will certainly want to take a look at — and a fine addition to the Gun of the Week series.
