Four new California Proposition 65 notices issued TGA Share ![]() ![]() ![]()
Consumer Advocacy Group, Inc. and the Center for Environmental Health issued 4 new "60-day" notices last week, stating that brands and retailers sold mobile device cases (Notice), cosmetic/toiletry bags (Notice), and jewelry (Notice 1; Notice 2) in California that contained cadmium, lead, and phthalates in violation of California Proposition 65 (Prop 65). TGA has included these notices in the TGA Prop 65 "60 Day Notice" running list. TGA will continue to update this list on a regular basis to help catalog the effects of this law on the travel goods industry. U.S. importers can again claim duty benefits under both the Andean Trade Promotion & Drug Eradication Act (ATPDEA) and the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP). Congress retroactively renewed ATPDEA back to February 13, 2011 and retroactively renewed GSP back to January 1, 2011. Both programs were extended until July 31, 2013. To obtain a duty refund, importers must file a claim by April 18, 2012. Importers will need to file Post Entry Agreements (PEAs) if they use the Automated Commercial System (ACS), and Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) if they use the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). U.S. gas prices dipped nearly 4 cents a gallon over the past two weeks as the slumping economy kept pressure on demand for fuel, according to a recent survey.
