Joining a gym can be an exciting or frustrating experience, depending on its orientation or onboarding program. If a new member is left to figure things out on her own, she could quickly become confused and even intimidated by the variety of equipment. Or, the new member is assigned to a trainer who shows her around and helps her develop a workout program. As the weeks progress, she becomes familiar with what the gym has to offer and how it can help her. Guess who’s still there a year later? Associations have the same challenge.

Survey: Size matters when running an association today

A new survey of nonprofits and associations found that an organization’s size affected not only its outlook but also the quality of its operational practices. Seventy percent of mid-size and large associations reported now is a good time to be running a membership organization, according to Virtual, Inc. In comparison, 52 percent of small associations reported an optimistic outlook.
