House panel approves measure to block EPA carbon rules Bloomberg Share     
A Republican-led House panel approved a measure that would block U.S. Environmental Protection Agency greenhouse-gas rules and reject the agency's finding that carbon-dioxide emissions endanger the public. The House Subcommittee on Energy and Power approved the
legislation, which will be sent to the full House Energy and Commerce Committee, by voice vote. A similar bill in the Senate hasn't been taken up yet. More

A bill sponsored in Maryland by seven separate delegates proposes that Maryland adopt version two of the International Green Construction Code in its entirety. As reported by my good friend Stuart Kaplow, this version of IGCC incorporates the upcoming Standard 189.1 for High Performance Buildings currently being developed by the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers. NAHB Research center Green Approved Products What it is: Green Approved Products have been pre-approved by the NAHB Research Center as being eligible for specific points in the ICC-700 National Green Building Standard. The nation's capital isn't just the epicenter of the U.S. government, it also leads U.S. cities and states in green building, new data show. The Obama administration requires new federal buildings meet higher energy-efficiency standards, and one result is that Washington now has far more green-building space per capita — 25 square feet — than any of the 50 states, according to the private U.S. Green Building Council. Barry Andrews Homes' Murphy's Run development earned the distinction in March as the 2,000th project to be certified by the NAHB Research Center under the National Green Building Standard. Under construction in Cecil County, Md., north of Baltimore, Murphy's Run is the 12th certified community in the country. An NAHB certified green home can be built for almost the same price as a standard home, contends Bossert Builders, Inc. in Kailua, Hawaii. To prove the point, the company's owners, Nick and Leanne Bossert, began renovation work on a modest home in O'ahu that had been destroyed due to an electrical fire. The owners of the home contracted Bossert Builders to rebuild their home as a certified green home, operating within the budget that had been allocated by the insurance company.
