The Australian government is considering an application to import foxes from the United States to be sold as pets and bred for commercial sale. A private individual has submitted a 15-page proposal to the Federal Environment Department, arguing domesticated silver foxes — a dark-furred or melanistic variant of the red fox — would be "a new sort of unique pet" combining "all the friendliness of a dog with the independence of a cat." Charles County, Md., to adopt restrictive anti-pet regulations

The County Commissioners of Charles County, Md., have proposed new animal regulations and amendments for existing regulations that cover a wide range of pet-related issues. The proposed bill sets forth provisions restricting dog ownership based on breed, imposes new standards of care, and raises licensing fees for pet owners, pet shops, groomers, commercial breeders, animal fanciers, boarding facilities and others. A new federal program to report, track and monitor cases of pet food contamination and health-related incidents could help states and federal agencies better coordinate in their knowledge and responses to these occurrences.
