Is your customer service compassionate?
Entrepreneur    Share   Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
There's a really interesting article on the National Retail Federation's Big Blog this week about its annual Customer's Choice Awards, where customers pick the best customer-service companies. The winner the last three years out of five? Not Amazon.com, or even new customer-service legend Zappos.com...no, instead the winner is 98-year-old L.L. Bean. How does L.L. Bean keep its customers happy? President and CEO Chris McCormick says it's all about compassion. More

Tips for going global
Inc.    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
"The first rule of thumb is to start thinking globally early," says Allen Adamson, managing director of the marketing firm Landor and author of BrandSimple. The sooner you begin to do business abroad, the sooner you'll be able to track metrics and gauge what is — and what is not — effective. More

Want better meetings? Start by shutting up
BNET    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
If you're wondering why so many meetings end up with nobody's mind being changed, (and thus time wasted and people frustrated) you're not alone. Turns out psychologists have been wondering the same thing. Recent research shows that once you've stated your opinion, you're not very likely to change your mind. That explains a lot about the failure of meetings, especially online. More

US Fish & Wildlife service seeking data on live amphibians in trade
PIJAC    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The Fish and Wildlife Service has published a Notice of Inquiry seeking information on the importation and transportation of live amphibians or their eggs and Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (chytrid fungus). What would be the impact if listed? Importation into the United States, export from the United States and interstate movement would be prohibited unless they are free of chytrid fungus. Every shipment would have to be accompanied by a written declaration prescribed by the FWS that "indicates the shipment meets or exceeds the recommendation [certification and handling system] of the World Health Organization for Animal Health in its Aquatic Animal Health Code on Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis." The new SEO: How Google Instant will impact online retail
Retail Customer Experience    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Last week, search titan Google unveiled Instant Search, a staggering change to the way search results are delivered to users: The site returns results while the user types, without waiting for a click of the "Search" button, and it changes those results with each letter typed. It immediately touched off klaxons and shrieks of despair across the Internet, with bloggers decrying it as "the death of SEO." The truth is much less dramatic than that, but Instant will instantly have an impact on retailers, notably those running paid search campaigns to drive traffic to their sites. More

Vet's view: Dogs bark, cats meow, but vets better speak Spanish
USA Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Like other U.S. cities, Miami is getting more Hispanic every day — the whole state, in fact, continues to attract Hispanics in droves. In Oregon, Arizona, Texas and New Mexico, Spanish-speaking veterinarians are also in high demand. Oregon's 11 percent Hispanic population (and booming) means there aren't enough Spanish-speaking veterinarians to meet the needs of its newish-to-English citizens. More

No questions asked?
Pet Product News Editorial Blog    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Driving into work a while ago, a radio commercial for major clothing retailer, the one on its "no questions asked" return policy, caught this author's ear. This national department store, like many others, will take back merchandise (worn or otherwise) without a receipt with no time limit for the return. Unfortunately, for Mom & Pop stores, the consumer has grown accustomed to these liberal return policies. More

Great. Now our pets are fat, too
Today    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The upsurge in pudgy pets has the same roots as the human obesity epidemic, vets say. Nutritionally unbalanced diets, too many treats and too little exercise all conspire to fatten up Fido. Thanks to these common causes, it's perhaps fitting that new pet weight-loss techniques, from interactive weight-monitoring tools to exercise equipment, are modeled after those meant for their two-legged companions.
