Scientists at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, have identified genetic variants associated with ototoxicity that occur in more than half of children treated with cisplatin. The report, published in
raises the possibilities that individuals at higher genetic risk for ototoxicity could receive lower cisplatin doses, alternative drug treatments, or be chosen for otoprotectant studies.
