Engine icing hazards discovered on Embraer regional jets
from The Wall Street Journal
Concerned about potential malfunctions of ice-protection systems on hundreds of Embraer regional jetliners, aviation regulators in Brazil and Europe have issued safety directives intended to prevent both engines on such planes from shutting down in mid-flight. The related moves, likely to be followed shortly by the Federal Aviation Administration, stem from software problems regulators believe could "result in loss of automatic activation" of ice-protection systems for engines on some Embraer 170 and 190 jets.
