New-home sales jump 48 percent; tax credit cited

New-home sales soared in April to levels not seen since before 2008's financial meltdown, but the expiring federal tax credit might be just part of the surge, industry experts say. Whatever the reason, the Commerce Department reported that sales of new homes climbed a whopping 47.8 percent above April 2009, and were 14.8 percent higher than its revised rate for March.
