Chromosome 17 abnormality found in inherited clubfoot cases
from Ortho SuperSite
Researchers have discovered that small recurrent DNA duplications, as well as deletions, on chromosome 17 are currently the most commonly known cause of inherited clubfoot deformity, occurring in 6 percent of cases studied. Christina Gurnett, MD, PhD, a pediatric geneticist and neurologist at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and colleagues found the abnormalities in a region of chromosome 17 in four of 66 patients with an inherited form of clubfoot they studied.
