If your children are thinking about getting a tongue piercing, you might want to clue them in on some of the dangers. Tongue piercing can lead to life-threatening infections, not to mention increased risk of tooth fracture, gum disease and hemorrhage. Recently, a dentist and researcher at the University of Buffalo documented that playing with the popular barbell-shaped tongue studs can force gaps in the upper front teeth, leading to thousands of dollars in orthodontic bills. But that may be the least of the long list of potential problems.
