Night splint treatment of plantar fasciitis pain
from Lower Extremity Review
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of subcalcaneal heel pain. It is a condition that affects about 10 percent of the population at some time during life and accounts for one million orthopedic outpatient visits annually. In approximately 85 percent of patients, the etiology is undetermined, but associations with obesity and limited ankle dorsiflexion of less than 10° have been reported as significant independent risk factors. Plantar fasciitis is typically characterized by pain and tenderness predominantly over the medial calcaneal tuberosity, which can ultimately limit physical activity.
