For diabetics, a small wound on a foot can lead to major problems, including amputation. "We have over 100,000 amputations a year in the U.S. due to foot ulcers, and that's unacceptable," said Dr. Joseph P. Cavorsi, medical director at The Center for Advanced Wound Care in Wyomissing, Pa., and a vascular surgeon at St. Joseph Medical Center, Bern Township. "That many amputations is an absurdity."
