AEA calls for end to 'heavy-handed regulation' in Europe
from Air Transport World
Association of European Airlines charged that "heavy-handed regulation and structural deficiencies" are holding back its member airlines while "global competitors are forging ahead, sponsored and supported as instruments of national policy." It called on EU and national authorities to establish a regulatory environment conducive to European airlines' competiveness on a worldwide scale. While not naming specific airlines that are "instruments of national policy," AEA likely is referring to the aggressive growth of Persian Gulf-based airlines Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways.
