Overtime cuts reduce security staff at city bridges, tunnels; Metropolitan Transportation Authority insists safety not compromised

For the first time since the World Trade Center attacks, the MTA did not increase security at bridges and tunnels during the recent terror scare. Sources blamed MTA overtime cuts. "Every time since 9/11, whenever something happened overseas, like the bombings in London, we stepped up security here — no matter what," said one source with knowledge of staffing. "Last week, nothing," the source said.
