Subway safety claim filed
from The Wall Street Journal
New York City Transit hasn't done enough to make sure gates over subway entrances stay open during emergencies, according to a lawsuit filed by a subway supervisor. Peter Nichik says he repeatedly warned subway officials about unsecured gates that are sometimes rolled down to close entrances. If too many gates are closed, intentionally or not, during an emergency, passengers could become trapped. He's asking a judge to order the MTA to fix the problems. That's something the MTA said it has already done.
