IGLTA recognized by UNWTO as first LGBT Affiliate Member
MADRID — The United Nations World Tourism Organization chose the Pink Corner at the recent FITUR Travel Trade Show in Madrid as the backdrop to present IGLTA with a certificate officially designating the association as UNWTO's first LGBT Affiliate Member. UNWTO Executive Director Márcio Favilla conducted the presentation and was joined by Javier Blanco, UNWTO executive director of affiliate members, and Peter Jordan, UNWTO affiliate member liaison. Accepting the certificate on behalf of IGLTA were European Ambassador Clark Massad and IGLTA Spanish Ambassador Juan Carmona del Solar. In his acceptance speech, Massad referred to recent comments by IGLTA President/CEO John Tanzella: "IGLTA is proud to be the first LGBT organization to be admitted into the UNWTO. We recognize that this partnership positions IGLTA and its membership at the forefront of global tourism, attesting to the progress of our association and its impact far beyond the LGBT travel niche." Massad also underscored the common goals shared by the two organizations and the many ways in which IGLTA can help other UNWTO Affiliate Members adhere to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics by targeting the LGBT consumer.
