from ORTHO SuperSite
The annual number of running-related injuries has increased 34 percent during a 14-year period, according to a study published in the Feb. 2011 issue of Clinical Pediatrics. Investigators examined running-related injuries - primarily sprains and strains to the lower extremities - among children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years, finding an estimated 225,344 cases treated in emergency departments throughout the United States from 1994 to 2007. The data was collected from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System.
