Commanding general position to become senior executive service civilian
As a joint military organization of the Department of Defense, the Exchange implements decisions made by the Secretary of Defense. On March 14, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates issued a memo "designed to reduce duplication, overhead and excess, and instill a culture of savings and cost accountability across the Department of Defense."
In accordance with this memo, the Exchange is directed to convert the commanding general position from that of a major general to a senior executive service civilian, a paygrade of the civil service, effective April 2012. Our remaining leadership structure remains unchanged per the memo.
We will proactively plan to make this transition as smooth as possible and provide updates as more information is available.
