Ray Edwards recently passed away. Edwards retired from Texas Eastman Company as senior development associate.  

Edwards made significant contributions to the plastics and converting industries through his work in extrusion coating, extraction coating polypropylene, and polyethylene resins. His accomplishments include developing the first commercial polypropylene for extrusion coating applications and disposable hospital sheeting, the first polyethylene compositions for extrusion coating photographic print papers, and the major low density polyethylene for liquid and solid food packaging. He also produced the first extrusion coatable polyethylene and high stress crack resistance and broad heat seal range applications.

He was an active TAPPI member, holding many positions in the PLACE (Polymers, Laminations, Coatings and Extrusions) Division. He has been secretary, vice chairman and chairman of the Extrusion Coating committee and technical program chairman of the Extrusion Coating Course. In addition, Edwards earned 15 patents in extrusion coating and extrusion coating resins and has authored 12 publications, presenting many of them at TAPPI Conferences
