Compound may heal bones, prevent osteoporosis
from Laboratory Equipment
A scientist has received a $2.6 million grant to study a chemical compound with potential to fight osteoporosis and accelerate broken bone healing. Early research suggests weakened bones treated with salubrinal experience a significant increase in strength, as well as accelerated healing in bones that have been fractured. "Salubrinal stimulates a cellular rescue program in response to stress," said Hiroki Yokota, professor of biomedical engineering at Indiana University.
