GITA participates in NAPSG event

from GITA

GITA cooperated with the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS on a successful educational event held Thursday and Friday, Nov. 3-4 at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington. The two-day event featured hands-on concurrent training sessions on essential geospatial skill and various public safety-related applications, as well as plenary sessions on best practices and tools for leveraging geospatial technology in response to emergency situations. A special panel, featuring representatives from the Department of Homeland Security's Geospatial Management Office, NGA, NOAA and the U.S. Coast Guard, provided a thorough review and discussion of GeoCONOPS — a geospatial common operating picture. The audience received overviews of local and regional advancements in information sharing for emergency preparedness, response and recovery, including GITA's Geospatially Enabling Community Collaboration initiative.

GITA and NAPSG have agreed to pursue additional collaborative opportunities and a partnership to provide geospatial education in public/private sector safety is also being discussed.
