New Laws on Concussions Protect Student Athletes

Thirty-two states now have laws addressing student-athlete concussions and several others could eventually follow suit, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures. Most legislation requires an athlete to leave competition or practice when a concussion is suspected, returning to play only when a doctor or other medical expert consents. Most also require school athletic officials to educate coaches, athletes and parents about concussions.
