Revisiting professional development for a changing profession
The legal industry is at a watershed moment. The profession lost 3,100 jobs between November 2010 and November 2011, according to a report released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Meanwhile, The American Lawyer's ninth annual survey of law firm leaders found that Am Law 200 firms continue to experience ongoing billing pressures, performance challenges and economic uncertainty. More than 81 percent of survey respondents said they're seeing an increase in client requests for discounts, and 92 percent said they had experimented with flat fees in 2011.
