Opinion: Florida Hazing Case Should Mark The End Of Brutal Tradition
from The Daytona Beach News-Journal
With the announcement that 13 students will be prosecuted for the hazing death of Robert Champion Jr., the state of Florida opened a new front in the battle against an entrenched culture of physical abuse. But law enforcement can't win this battle alone. On May 2, prosecutors charged 13 people in the death of Champion, 26, who died from repeated blows on Nov. 19. Champion had been a member of the famed Florida A&M University Marching 100. Champion, a drum major, was allegedly beaten to death after the Florida Classic football game in Orlando.
